This book has been sitting on my 'to-read' bookshelf for a pretty long time. I started the "House of Night" series a few years ago, and let me tell you, I was instantly hooked, finishing the first two books in one day! But then there was the third book, then a fourth, fifth...all the way to a tenth now. And who knows when it'll actually end! But having nothing else to read on a rainy evening, I decided to give "Hidden" a shot.

With Neferet and her evil deeds finally exposed, Zoey and her friends should be free to live normal vampyre lives, but unfortunately for them, the former High Priestess of the House of Night in Tulsa is far from done with wreaking havoc in her thirst for power. To top it all off, Zoey is beginning to suspect that Aurox, the strange bull-boy who ended up killing Dragon, is actually Heath, her human boyfriend who sacrificed himself for her. With tensions running high and the stakes even higher, Zoey and her friends must find a way to stop Neferet before it's too late.

...And they better do it soon. Seriously, the Casts are dragging this whole series on wayyyyy too long. It would be so easy for the apparently powerful vampyre gang to take down Neferet with one of their many, many magical abilities, yet they just end up messing up one way or another. Neferet always finds some way to provoke Zoey, which is honestly pretty stupid when she's 500 years old and Zoey's only...seventeen or something. I mean, the things that she does just to provoke Zoey are so immature and stupid, and the fact that the entire book revolved around Neferet trying to hurt Zoey in an indirect way just made everything a little flat. The plot isn't horrible or anything, it's just a little annoying when you see this whole thing dragging on and on and on and on.

The "House of Night" series wouldn't seem as frustratingly long, I think, if the characters were a little more likable. Lets just take Zoey as an example. She's definitely a strong character, who's had to deal with a lot since a young age but is still trying to be the confident leader that her friends need, and the whole not-swearing thing (i.e. "bullpoopie") is a little juvenile but cute. But despite this she's not an all together likable protagonist. She's just a little too whiney and the fact that she's caught between all these different guys kind of makes me roll my eyes. I also feel like there should be more of a character development, especially given that there is ample space and time for what could be great development.

Overall, "Hidden" is probably a miss, though I do want to see how the entire series ends--I deserve that much, at least, after ten whole books! Don't get me wrong, the "House of Night" series would be great if it had ended a couple books ago. It's simply about time that things wrapped up by now.

Hidden A House of Night Novel House of Night Novels P C Cast Kristin Cast Books Reviews

So these last two installments, Destined and Hidden were disappointing they didn't have the thrills and twists as books 4 - 8 did. And I liked having the dark feel to them that these other books had but these last two felt as if I were again reading Marked and Betrayed. The only parts that gave me chills were Neferets scenes but I'm getting tired of the whole Neferet thing the Cast's have to do something new cause this is getting boring and a little predictable I was also upset because the Cast's really didn't throw any new storyline at my favorite couple, Stevie Rae and Rephaim. And Stark is one of my favorite characters but it's kinda hard to because he's in love with Zoey. So the only character that helped me make it to the end of these two books especially this one was Kalona. And are you serious they brought Heath back. Do they not understand that really no one liked him so why is he back? I guess he was just one of those characters that no one likes except the authors. I mean don't get me wrong he is a nice and sweet guy but boy is he an idiot and that's what makes people not like him. The only thing that was a twist in Destined was what happened to Dragon. This book really was just a book to make money out of. The only thing that was interesting was what was going on with Kalona. This book really didn't do anything to change the storyline. They just brought back the stupid boy drama and Kalona is now on the right path and fighting for Light instead of Darkness, only thing was the sucky timing that he got excepted back, because he had to save Sylvia but was unable to because he could not get rid of Darkness. And Erin is taking the wrong path. And after all this stupid drama I'm done with this series you won't catch me buying any other books from this series, but hey the jokes on me because I brought 10 of these dam things. I have never given up on a series but I had to on this one. I don't care what happenes to the characters, I just don't anymore, enough is enough. I don't care if there's just two more books left they are milking this series for as much as they can get. And now while I put these books in the attic the Cast's are laughing while throwing and swimming in hundred doller bills.

Plot

Zoey has finally exposed Neferet's evil to the High Council and they are no longer on her side. But she's far from done creating havoc. Everyone must stand together if they wanna defeat Neferet but that's proving to be hard because the twins are are barely speaking and Kalona has become their warrior, pushing their trust to the limit. To top it off Zoey believes that when she looked throw the seer stone at Aurox that she saw Heath.
Warning There are spoilers.

I really like the House of Night series. I think Aphrodite is one of my all-time favorite characters in a book. She is such a smart-ass and cracks me up. P.C. and Kristin did a wonderful job on the characters in this series. They're also creative and imaginative writers who I appreciate. I think though, this series is dragging on and on and on. If you plan on doing a series or trilogy, you need to shake things up a bit and make the story fresh.

In this book Hidden, not much really happens, except Neferet gets darker, is shunned by the High Council, and kidnaps Zoey's grandma.

What took place in this book could have been written in the last one.

What was new in this novel was Erin's character changing sides and Lenobia's revelation about something I've been waiting for since the last installment. Unfortunately though, me as a reader, only got a glimpse on what was going on with these two characters. I think the story would have been a lot fresher if the authors had focused more on these two characters. I also think it would have been cool if Aurox (A.K.A. bull-boy) had revealed his true self to Zoey and the gang at the beginning of this novel. It would have made a more interesting story to read and the authors could have ran with it, creating many twists and turns in this tale. But it's their creation, and I respect that. I was just hoping for a lot more than what it was.
