Daughter of Light Dark Prophecy of Nitesh Book 1 eBook Ch'kara SilverWolf

In the spirit of full disclosure, I want my fellow readers to know that it went against my former strict training as a Christian to read an alluring book about magik, the earth goddess, and various nature spirits. But aside from that theological issue, I very much enjoyed this book, and was impressed with the quality of the writing, the sensitivity of the female protagonist, Montanya, and the way that patience was praised as a virtue. The lovely country settings, alive with salamanders, frogs, and colorful birds, offered a panoply of rare and exotic characters. Although the cast of minor characters was too large for me to remember all their fanciful names, I still enjoyed meeting them through a joyous celebration of life and initiation ceremony. The book is basically the story of a quest, related in a classic heroic style; the olden vocabulary and elvish language are convincing. The pace of the journey exhibits the mystery of patience. One must suspend ones disbelief to follow Montanya’s journey from childhood slave girl to powerful magik wielder, to conflicted human being. In the almost cinematic scenes, flora and fauna are abundant, as are enticing aromas of food and fleeting glimpses of elves and nymphs, and above all, the dragon, the symbol of Montanya’s secret identity. As you can see, I found this fable-like book an enchanting read and was able to set aside my Bible for a while to enjoy it. Actually, Daughter of Light & Dark does indeed deal with the conflicts inherent in being human: half angel, half demon, attracted to both good and evil, unable to stop from sinning and yet aspiring to heavenly light, we are all, as readers, made in a similar image to Montanya.

Daughter of Light Dark Prophecy of Nitesh Book 1 eBook Ch'kara SilverWolf Reviews

I read the Daughter of Light & Dark (Prophecy of Nitesh) with much anticipation. I wasn't disappointed.

Synopsis Humble beginnings, unexpected magik, and a fight against a dark threat. Such is the fate of Montanya, a child who never knew her parents. Follow her journey as she learns about her magical heritage and joins the fight against the Dark Lord.

What I liked The plot was well developed. The story follows Montanya from her very humble beginnings as a slave to her evolution to a creature of magik. Along the way, she meets a variety of friends that offer their help as she progresses through her magikal growth. The development of Montanya's characters and that of her friends was top notch.

What I didn't like The conflicts were very low key and the action was soft. I struggled with the ease at which the characters seemed to fall in love with no hint or risk of hurt or betrayal. While I admired the characters loyalty to Montanya, it was a little odd that they simply dropped everything to join in the quest. Lastly, the lavish descriptions of the characters' outfits distracted me from the story.

Overall impression The Daughter of Light & Dark (Prophecy of Nitesh) Volume One was a very pleasant and easy read. With good character development and a good plot, the book drew me in and kept me interested. Despite the lack of action scenes usually found in fantasy novels, the storyline was enough to hold my attention. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a softer, more romantic take on fantasy quest novels.

My rating 4 Stars (out of 5)!
I am a big fan of the fantasy quest - the coming together of different characters with their own personalities and skills to work together to achieve something that none may achieve alone. In this case the main character is Montayna - a freed slave girl who discovers her magikal abilities as she gathers together those people both human and fae who will aid her on her quest.

She must discover why she is the Chosen One from the prophecy and what she must do to eventually fight the darkness that is threatening the land. She is guided by the ancient wizard Gilcune, who interprets the Prophecy as they travel. As well as the mysterious young girl Kaya who at times seems wise beyond her years.

As the story progresses, some of her companions split off on their own journeys from time to time, which is another wonderful part of the fantasy quest.

The story has been told so well through the characters that it kept me enthralled throughout.
Although there were no battles and fighting as such, Montayna had to tap into her dark side in order to survive.

I look forward to book two with anticipation of what further adventures are to come for Montayna and her companions.
Very interesting book. Great world building in this story. It felt like a Tolkien type world. The creatures were interesting. I like the care of the environment and respect for other life forms that was shown in this book.

Spoiler alert
The book is sweetly romantic. There is an absence of blood and gore and graphic sex that gave me a good feeling. While the impending darkness hangs in the background of your mind, the characters are great to each other. They work together, we don't see jealousy or meanness in the primary group of creatures that help the chosen one on her quest.

The world and the characters here were very complex. I was worried the chosen would have to make this trek on her own but she has plenty of help, perhaps because she is so gracious and loyal to her friends.

I recommend this story to anyone who is looking for a wonderful fantasy with characters on a quest. The main character must constantly choose between good or evil. That is not as easy a choice as you would think it would be.

It's a very involved and wonderful world and it is filled with well thought out and complex characters. Very good book.
