. . . and Belle never intends to bring another man into her family. Since she can't punch a thousand head of cattle all the way to Helena before the first snow flies, she needs more help than her daughters can provide. Belle hires drifter Silas. She doesn't expect he'll amount to much since he's a man. Her previous three "dearly" departed husbands proved to be less than helpful leaving her with a low opinion of men in general. The trail proves to be a trial, but Silas takes on the task not totally aware of what he's getting himself into. Will he succeed in convincing Belle and her girls that not all men are layabout scoundrels? This reviewer will never tell the ending, but will say this is one very good story. Book two in the series, it's as good as the first one. The reader won't be disappointed.Tags : The Husband Tree (Montana Marriages, Book 2) [Mary Connealy] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. <div> <P style= MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-pagination: none; mso-layout-grid-align: none >Hit the trail into the Old West,Mary Connealy,The Husband Tree (Montana Marriages, Book 2),Barbour Publishing, Inc,1602601437,Christian - Western,Romance - Historical - General,Man-woman relationships;Fiction.,Ranch life;Fiction.,Women ranchers;Fiction.,Genre Fiction,Literature & Fiction,AMERICAN HISTORICAL FICTION,AMERICAN LIGHT ROMANTIC FICTION,AMERICAN WESTERN FICTION,Christian - Romance,FICTION Christian Western,FICTION Romance Historical General,Fiction,Fiction - Religious,Fiction Christian Romance,Fiction-Christian,GENERAL,General Adult,Man-woman relationships,Monograph Series, any,Ranch life,RomanceGeneral,United States,Women ranchers
The Husband Tree Montana Marriages Book 2 Mary Connealy 9781602601437 Books Reviews
This is a clean, Christian romance. After just reading the first chapter I suspected this would become one of my favorites. Now that I'm done with the story I know that I will come back again and again. I made the mistake of starting this book while sitting in the waiting room of the doctor's office. I'm sure I got several odd looks at my stupid grin and un-ladylike snorts as I attempted to keep from laughing out loud. What an unexpected treasure this book is. That's saying a lot from me. I've written over two hundred fifty reviews and have read hundreds more. You have to wade through a lot of mediocre and some downright awful stuff to find a gem like this. Books have a 'feel' or 'mood', much like music or art. When all the elements come together (compelling storyline, author with excellent 'voice', professional quality editing) just so, you get an experience experience like this. I highly recommend this book for your enjoyment.
Just finished reading The Husband Tree to my boys. What a fun story, about worthless men and the things a woman has to do to be able to live with them, until they die and can be buried under the Husband Tree.
Belle Tanner vows to never marry again after husband number 3 dies. When she learns that she has to get a thousand head of cattle to Helena, she finds herself in need of hiring some hands. But she only finds one. And it doesn't take long before she's kissing him and her girls are getting mad for breaking her promise. They have a great adventure getting the cows to Helena and then returning home before they are snowed out for the winter. And then Belle finds herself with husband number 4. Has she made another huge mistake? She thought Silas would be a wonderful husband because her girls all like him and he was so helpful on the cattle trail. But now that they are married, he seems to be even worse than the other lazy no accounts, because this time she let herself fall in love with him.
We all loved this story and are looking forward to reading Wade and Glowing Sun's story next.
As I read this great story, I kept thinking that I could never survive what these people did!! Life in the old days was TOUGH.
We all have been hurt, some of us are broken, but life goes on any way. We must keep going. The main character Belle does go on, and does extremely well altho she doesn't realize how well. Her daughter's are as smart and TOUGH as Belle, even tho they are still children. They work better and harder than most men. Silas, a cowpuncher, is hired on to help the family get a large herd of cattle to market before the winter snows come. Things start to happen when. ...... Just read to find out for yourselves.
So glad to read the whole story of Belle and her girls!! This is an incredible story -- you will be all squeezed up inside as you travel over the mountains with Belle, Silas, her girls, and hundreds of cattle!! Belle has always done things the hard way -- she had to, couldn't count on a man. She should know, she's had 3 husbands and buried each one around the same tree on her place. She's done her very best to take care of her girls, but she's afraid she won't be able to hold out much longer. The cattle have to get to market, or they'll perish. The trail to market is over the most inhospitable mountain range, and many good men have died on the journey. Belle's looking for help and Silas offers to go, but she doesn't trust him. He's just a man, after all. Silas can't for the life of him understand why he offered to hire on with Belle, and when he discovers the other "hands" are her daughters, he really, really wants to back out. But, here he is and no, his heart is NOT softening toward this exasperating, stubborn,
hard-working, never met anyone like her, will hardly let you help her, woman! Belle is more conflicted than ever. She knows she has the worst track record ever choosing husbands and she's sticking by her decision to never marry again. So what if Silas seems different than other men? She knows he's just after her land, and besides, he keeps trying to tell her what to do!!! This story makes you laugh out loud, while you're wiping tears for all the heartache in Belle and her daughter's lives. Silas carries his own pain and you aren't sure that everyone doesn't need to just walk away without causing each other more grief. The characters from Montana Rose come along for the ride, and you meet new folks from the next story in this series! As always, Ms. Connealy's goal is to share how God speaks to us whenever we'll listen, regardless if we're dangling off a cliff, or weeping at the cemetery.
I really enjoyed this story, the plot was wonderful. I like tough spunky women who can handle their self. I was a little disappointed that there wasn't more interaction with people from book one. There were unrealistic parts like four men building a cabin in a matter of hours. The second one was Silas building a two story home all by himself in one month. The amount of work chopping down all the trees, cutting them to fit together. It would take longer lifting each long log alone, especially on the second floor. Logs aren't even there are spaces which back then they filled in the mud and straw which would be hard to produce in the winter with snow and ice. I know back then children married at 15 yet for Lindsay I would have liked her to have until 17 so she didn't follow in her mother's steps having babies being a child herself. Overall I did enjoy this book.
