The words WOW sum up how I felt reading Ann Marie's UP In The Air! When I read a book I don't always like to read the back of it, I just like to be transported into the world of the writer. This is exactly what I did with this book. So I didn't know the back story. I just wanted the story to unfold. At first I felt so bad for Melody's Dad in his wheelchair and I could understand Melody's embarrassment toward her mother being obese. That's all I knew. As the story unfolded I didn't like Melody at first, her zombie faces, how she got so hot tempered all the time. I was putting the story together but there was an element of "there's' more just be patient". Then she is in the air, ready to fall onto kids and within seconds in a dream world. I loved the description of everything, I felt I was there. I could easily picture the Guides, dragons, wings, leprechauns, the exit points and more! Jibber Jabbers and other terms used in this book are so cleverly written. My plan was to read this book to my children ages 16,14 and 10. Like we used to when they were all little. But in the end I didn't wish to share! I am 41 and couldn't wait to continue to read the book each night until it was done. Now my kids are free to read it on their own. But with our youngest I think it will be a joint effort. 5 stars is definitely what this book deserves and I'd give it a 10 if I could!! Thank you Ann Marie for creating this world and the truth of self discovery, being honest and trusting. And NEVER EVER GIVING UP ON ONES DREAMS!

This book does a great job reinforcing confidence and self worth, in a way that is not preachy. Wonderfully written.
This is a story that will entertain the "chapter book" readers.The lessons are there but told in a way that readers will understand. The art work is wonderful. It's clear and sharp with a minium of lines that capture the person drawn. The slight tilt of the head and the clothes define the character. The art work was done by my grandson and his people speak to me. You will see many more of his illustrations in future books.
I enjoyed the Chimeroan world and the way Melody had to confront her fears to keep her wings! UP IN THE AIR is an imaginative and rich story perfect for middle graders and the child in all of us.
Melody dreams of flying, of leaving her troubles behind. When she's transported to the magical land of Chimeroan, a beautiful pair of wings all her own makes the dream a reality. Unfortunately for her, outflying her problems (or guilt) isn't as easy as she'd hoped. Full of adventure and heart, this is a wonderful story for ages 9 and up. I truly enjoyed it!
A powerful read on the journey of personal and spiritual transformation, the challenges we all must face on that path and the beauty we experience once we endure. A fun-filled adventure story for the young reader and at the same time a truly compelling tale for all. I was inspired by this book to dare to live the life of my dreams and I thank the author for sharing her soul with all of us.
I loved this book! I was looking for "something" for Christmas gifts and I saw this book. I wanted to purchase it for a gift, but also decided to get the version for myself. Ann Marie's style of writing got me hooked within the first few pages. Her characters were slowly built up to the point that it's like you know them. You can relate to each character. She put the reader right in there to a front row seat! I loved the story, the characters, the length of the book . . . pretty much all of it. I'm giving it 5 stars. I did not feel that it was a child's book, but one for pre-teens and older,even for adult readers. I enjoyed it immensely. I'm so glad I purchased the hardcover version for a special young pre-teen.
This book rocked my world and became my wake up in the middle of the night friend for about three nights. A delightful read. I didn't want to finish it because that experience would be over and at the same time I was compelled to finish it and know how Melody worked it all out. Bonus? Three days of morning epiphanies after reading during the wee hours! (And they're still coming!!) I now have such a visceral knowing that we are living a dream and we get to choose which one it is that we live. It is never too late to shift the dream I live! I can be totally ok with the dreams the people around me are choosing without having to shift anything.
