In this second installment of Whore Diaries, Burns touches upon various stereotypes, one being the general social assumption that sex workers choose this line of work out of necessity. In a capitalistic culture in which one's work is so often central to one's identity, I wondered at the tightrope she must walk when discussing her identity with those outside this co-culture in which she works. At one point Burns' describes her work, saying, "This is what I want to always be doing. I love this strange overlapping and balancing of money, power, ethics, and healing." And yet, her work as identity is something that mainstream, patriarchal culture does not allow her to share with us. It's all on the down low. We have to seek her out. We are not allowed access without specific intention on our (the readers) part. And while it would be easy for me to blame the patriarchy, I suspect that even within the feminist community, Burns' contribution is shunned by some. Perhaps we really are living in The Handmaid's Tale. Regardless of the cultural and political constraints that inform a sex worker's everyday life, Burns weaves a story that descriptively holds our attention and promotes heightened curiosity on the part of her readers.Product details

The secret life stories of a whore this woman loves her work and loves her life. Inspiring to read. I found myself needing to pause and think about her stories. For example, why is her pungent, messy life so full of joy and enjoyment? Coming from a stale, paper-dry corporate lifestyle, I can't help myself thinking this way.
I followed Taras' adventures before, and when the opportunity to read this book came, I took it.
Short, enjoyable, easy, yet detailed reading about people, psychology, and sex.
I started reading and couldn't let it go till
I finished it, captivating me, with believeable stories from a woman, the Goddess, who makes no excuses for what she does.
Makes me look forward to her next book ...
... on the things a sex worker pays attention to in order to do a good job / get the job done, be it to liberate a client from his own skin or head, to deflecting unwanted/misguided energy while making a point and staying safe. Unlike what anti-younameits will want people to believe -- namely that sex workers who don't consider themselves victims suffer from false consciousness/were abused when young so they are acting out/are high on all kinds of drugs -- Tara Burns is in the moment, describing her presence and surroundings in a detail so alive, it is beyond dispute she is making fabulously well-informed choices for herself, and no one could tell her what's best for her.
An indulgent read for the senses and the erotic imagination.
Is it perfectly written or flawlessly edited? No. But it’s raw, real, entertaining, and thought provoking. Reading her writing made me genuinely LIKE Tara Burns and each of the three Whore Diary installments just made me want to know more about her. I hope she writes more as she has a really original voice and an interesting story.
Tara Burns makes sense of a business that rarely has a clear voice. She talks about her from her own strength, with empathy for most of her customers and a sharp eye for relevant details. I have been following Tara's adventures for several years on Yahoo groups, her blog, and in Whore Diaries I. Her spirit and power show clearly in her writing.
These books are very entertaining and the only bad part is how short they are. Nice writing style and the psychology studies do show.
Tara has made a very interesting life for herself and reading about her adventures is fun. As a guy who has never been with an 'escort', it is great to read how she feels about her customers and how she wants to please them. She knows that making the customer happy is how you get return business. From the first page you can tell that she has seen and done pretty much everything and is willing to do it again - if the price is right! Her writing style is simple and straightforward; it's like an email from a friend who just happens to be telling you about her sex business life. I highly recommend Whore Diaries II.
